About me and the show.
My name is Rob David Novis and I’ve been listening to the radio all my life. My father had a radio show and I first went on the air when I was 10. Before Social media back in the 90s I had a flower stand and I used to sit in my van playing my guitar, listening to NPR or the local radio station from my area. I remember listening to an episode on This American life about testosterone and then when it became a podcast I heard the same show that I had listened to in the back in the 90s. I have heard that once someone has done something for 10,000 hours you become an expert at it and I think I’ve hit the magic number as a listener, so I finally came up with an idea that represents my story and interests.
The show’s name is based on people that are following their passions, doing jobs they love or living in far out places, or are on a journey. My life is a bit “beyond the confines” as I have been living in Italy for the past 20 years where I teach English at the University of Modena/Reggio Emilia. I love my job because I get to interact with amazing students. I have also had an interesting upbringing. Born in the 70s we lived in the Sierra Nevada foothills living off the grid with no electricity for several years.
I’d also like to extend the theme to people that are disabled and have learned to cope with their situation or prisoners who are no longer incarcerated, or someone who has had a difficult struggle and made it to the other side. So if you have an interesting story get in touch! What really drives me is the curiosity to meet fascinating people and to reconnect with friends that I’ve met along the way. It’s a seasonal show and will be released on a weekly basis.
